Just like Coco Mademoiselle to Coco, Black Opium has zero in common with its iconic predecessor, 1979’s Opium, apart from the bottle shape²… so, one might easily love one and not the other. I happen to like both, but they have completely different scent profiles. Black Opium has its rough edges. It is a bit too simple composition-wise, and has a nice opening-middle phase but dries down with a slightly bitter, flatter tone (I’m not the biggest fan of cashmeran and its raspy texture)… Still, the coffee-vanilla-patchouli combo is very nice for the 4-5 hours it lasts. It makes me think of a coffee shop, whith the scent of almond capuccino mixing with less gourmand tones of wood, cashmere and floral perfume.
